Tom's new kitchen

Here are some pictures taken today showing the cabinets that Tom and Kim refinished. They took them down and sanded them, then varnished. They had someone come and put down the tile floor, but Tom watched the process so he can feel comfortable doing other rooms that he wants tiled. And now he can do my bathroom floor! The put in a new dishwasher (you can't see it) and will get a new smooth-top stove. They painted the walls a soft gray color, and installed a new overhead light (you can't see it either). They removed that awful cottage cheese ceiling and painted it white. The whole room looks very very nice. Next weekend they are installing a Pergo floor themselves to the dining room, which adjoins the kitchen and you can't see that in this shot, but I'll take more pictures when they are finished!

Yasmeen is off to Barnard College

Yasmeen leaves tonight, flying to New York City to begin her freshman year at Barnard College http://www.barnard.edu/ . We are all so happy for her and she is really excited. We got together to eat and wish her success.

Maverick Stars

Gee it has been fun making these stars from scraps. I may never to Tri-Recs again! I wonder what kind of a layout I can come up with. I don't have a lot of scraps so I think I'll just make the various points and as more scraps become available can make more blocks...don't want them all out of just what's on hand now.

Puppies

My son has two female Miniature Pinchers who had 10 puppies between them. Yesterday I took two dog-loving grandaughters out to see the puppies. They are about 6 weeks old and most are spoken for. Of course, the girls each want one!

On the way home, we got behind this WIDE LOAD, I wonder what it is. Look at ALL those wheels it takes to support the weight. This was on I-80 and it took up both east bound lanes. We were behind it for over 30 minutes, crawling at 0-5 mph until it finally came to its turnoff.

Quilt of Valor top finished

Here is my QOV, not real exciting and not very big but fills the required measurements for a quilt to give to the QOV cause. I really wanted this picture to go the other way, I messed up I guess uploading it. Still am figuring out blog stuff.

I have still not started my August project that I had as a goal on Bonnie's Quiltville group, nor have I cut out my BOM blocks on Mary's site. But I will shortly, I hope!

What A Dish

My sister sent me a picture of this quilt design by Denyse Schmidt http://www.dsquilts.com/thegoods.html a very talented gal. This is a close up. It is bias strips appliqued in a circle pattern.

I also worked some today on the current clue for the Quilt of Valor mystery going on, and the last clue is scheduled the end of August.
