Lupine mystery part 6

Finished clues 1,2,3 and still working on clues 4,5,6.  Still squaring up clue 4, it’s slow going.  Make mistakes and have to redo, but will get there. I feel it’s a race against time, but then isn’t it always…

For the Majestic mystery I’m still squaring up the hourglass squares and have started on the checkerboard squares …need to put a photo

Lupine clue 5 and Working on two quilts

I don’t remember why I thought this was a good idea!  But so far it’s working out, minus my mistakes😀. I got just one set of the Lupine mystery part 4 half rectangles squared up. I think it’s going to take a long time to get these trimmed!  I did buy the special ruler and it is great help  I realized I’ve never done this kind of half recs

And it was fun to see clue 5 starting
As for the magnificent mystery I’m still working on the September clue, squaring up hourglass squares. I’ll get there, eventually. I always hope once I get the hang of it I can power on through

Red lipstick

I learned something new tonight. While watching a delightful movie starring Michael Caine about the 50th anniversary of D-Day, I wondered why all the women wore red lipstick.  And thinking of other movies about WW2 and how women wore red lipstick.  So I searched and found out it was practically mandatory, to show patriotism etc. Elizabeth Arden was tasked with developing a bright red shade. I think my mother always wore red lipstick….

Redoing and fixing mistakes on majestic mystery and clue 4 lupine mystery

I hope it isn’t always going to be like this!  Here are redone squares for the majestic mystery:

And here are the redone clue 4 of the Lupine mystery  I got so confused with these half rectangles!  Waiting for the (expensive) ruler to square up  I hated buying the ruler but felt it was so necessary in my case!  So I won’t be caught up before the next clue…that’s okay

Going to start over on Majestic mystery

After considering what I really want, I will start over after my error. So today I cut all pieces needed and will carefully begin again!  I’m excited for I really wanted the black background, to go with another dark background quilt.  So problem solved.

I made a big mistake…how to proceed

In looking over the magnificent mystery at Meadow Mist Designs, I just realized I’ve used the wrong colors. Good grief how can I be so stupid.  Here is what the pattern required and I’m using the bottom row, with the black background.   I’ve made A as my background with of course not enough fabric and way too much black..  I don’t know what to do I could just keep going and I have some other cream fabric I could use. I guess the other colors would play together but I really wanted a black background!!  And I spend a lot on this fabric….oh well it’s just a quilt…

Lupine mystery clue 3

Almost done with these, will be ready for the next clue.  I’m thinking I need to recount these!  We need some BLUE!

 Here are the rest

Lupine mystery clue 2

I can’t believe I’m caught up on the first two clues. Next clue on Friday   Clue 2. Some of the geese will require creative sewing. I think mine got worse the more I did

I’m also starting the Magnificent Mystery, it started in September so I’m way behind.

Lupine mystery, clue 1

I’ve done half the clues and the other half is cut out. Then clue 2. Today I needed to rest mostly after an exhausting Thanksgiving…but good. I did make a pumpkin pie and some cranberry jam. The jam is a new recipe   I overcooked the pie and I think maybe cooked the jam too long…oh dear  nothing’s as easy as it used to be!

Coat of many colors

That’s what this quilt reminds me of…it’s very colorful   The back is a micro fiber sheet, need to take another photo  and I’ve cut our a few of the pieces of Bonnie’s mystery quilt.  There’s no reason why i can’t keep up with the clues!

It’s quilted

First quilt I’ve put together and quilted in a long time. Boy it’s harder than it used to be…just need to bind it then can start on Bonnie Hunter’s mystery quilt.  I haven’t done the last two mysteries but I intend to since I have the fabric. I miss my quilting buddy, my sister, we always did these together.  I have a couple projects lined up. It feels good to be back in the sewing room , poor thing has no name…

My Christmas cactus is blooming for thanksgiving

Donation quilt top

Time is fast approaching when this is due, better get hustling. This looks different than it did on my design wall due to my errors transferring from the wall to the sawing machine!  But I’m not fiddling with it any more…

Progress is happening

I finished the apron, it is huge but still works, maybe I’m not wearing it correctly!

Next is the quilt for donation to Sub for Santa.  I think it is ugly but these are what the quilt shop gave me

On the knitting front it’s always slower going than is wanted,  here is the blanket so far. 6 inches!

Wednesday, November 12, 2025

Seems like I prefer to do three things at once. I downloaded a free apron pattern as a way to ease back into sewing and quilting. Then a local quilt shop gave away a set of strips to be made into a quilt for Sub for Santa and due November 25th. Then I got interested in the quilt jacket. So all 3 projects are under way.    AnOther thing going on is knitting every day for cancer (3 projects going on).   Today is cloudy and truthfully I don’t feel like doing anything 😀!  But my goal is to finish as much as possible before Bonnie Hunters mystery at the end of November ..Creamie likes the pinks and purples for the mystery  plus she likes the sun streaming in the window

Quilted jacket

I don’t know how I got started on this quilted jacket. My niece was making one for her mother, My sister, and I thought it was so cute.  The idea is from the Laundry Basket blog.  Meanwhile, my sister and I used to quilt together. We made so many of Bonnie hunters mysteries. I made mine full size and she made hers half or 3/4. She’s the math major and I couldn’t figure out the math so I always made the full size. Well, my sister got dementia and no longer quilts so all of her fabric and unfinished quilt tops went to her daughter who is also a quilter.  Barbara, her daughter sent me one of my sisters quilt tops which just happened to be on Ringo Lake. So I followed the instructions cut up the quilt top and I am now quilting the pieces getting ready to put it together. You cut up a sweatshirt to use as a pattern and also it is the batting. Here are some photos. I about cried cutting up my sister’s work, however there are pieces left over to make hot pads so nothing goes to waste

 One quilted front

This is the one my niece made
Here are the fronts
Laying it out
This is the lining, bad lighting, it’s a light turquoise color as seen in the first photo

I’m baaackkk…..

After a semi retirement, I decided I wanted to get back to quilting.  I have an apron cut out, I signed up for a challenge at a quilt shop to make a strip quilt - they provided the strips, and a 3 rd project, making a jacket out of one of my sisters quilt tops.  On top of that I of course want to do Bonnie hunters mystery quilt.  I missed the last two years and I miss the excitement doing it brought. But there’s one problem:  I gave away my stash and all my other fabric. So I’m slowly purchasing fabric here and there.. love the daily deal at. Missouri star company and the flash sale at fat quarter shop. Now that Bonnie revealed the colors for the mystery quilt, I’m looking to buy those colors.

Here’s a look at the quilted jacket I’m attempting to do, from a pattern on laundry basket quilts , I need to take in the shoulders and make the side seams smaller so the fronts will meet in the center  it has sleeves of course, this is just pinned together .  The quilt top is On Ringo Lake a Bonnie hunter mystery  from 2009 I think, that my sister made but never quilted  search this site to see my On Ringo Lake quilt!

Now it’s June 2025

I looked back on my blog to see when I started the last 2 children’s quilts, it was march 2024, and I just finished quilting and finishing them. It’s interesting to me that in that time I had forgotten how to use the automatic needle threader, how to wind the bobbin and where reverse was!  But it all came back….since I donated the last of my fabric it looks like I might be at the end of my quilting career, sad!  The last thing is to give my Bernina to my daughter…here are my last two finishes

Still in a slump

Can’t seem to get motivated to sew and as time drags on so does my lack of ambition, sad!

Thursday, January 2, 2025

Gee here it is 2025 already and I’m still not sewing. Should make this a resolution!

Well I have no excuses, still interested in getting back to sewing…. I’ve added two mysteries I want to do
