Clue 6

Boy this is a big block!  The purple looks so dark I think the photo makes it darker but I might replace it.  Almost wish I’d used lilac …

Here are some more.  I’m pretty sure there will be spaces between the blocks.

Clue 5 just before Christmas

This is an easy clue, I’ve cut out the aqua squares for each block and can just sit and sew.  I originally didn’t like the white sashing so I’m going to let that part simmer on the back burner. Here are several ideas

Easy clue 4

All done with this clue. I have 5 quilt sandwiches to work on!  Here is the clue. Too much orange I wish I’d used a different color!

Started clue 4 then…oh no!

Thank goodness I only cut out 5 sets, I discovered I used the WRONG ruler!  These triangles are huge and not at all typical of Bonnie!

When I realized this mistake I fortunately was able to use the correct ruler and salvage these pieces. The only waste is a lot of the neutral fabric which I doubt I’ll ever be able to use.   On to further working on this clue correctly!

My salmon colored Christmas cactus has a bloom. It almost looks red but compared with the red one you can see a difference. These pics are both the salmon color

Chilhowie mystery

Look what I found in my leftover box, from the On Ringo Lake mystery in 2017-18.  Apparently I cut more than I needed!  So since clue 1 is similar I’ll use these and modify where necessary.  Will take awhile but feels good to use fabrics I no longer have!

Christmas cactus

I love these cactus plants, can’t get enough of them. The first to bloom this season is my white one, it slowly seems to go from white to light pink

The red plant is close to blooming.  The hot pink has buds and one bloom about to open and the apricot one will be blooming last. A festive array!

My new favorite Southern cook

Her name is Brenda Gantt who lives in Andalusia, Alabama. She has a series of videos plus two cookbooks. I love to watch her videos, such a sweet southern lady. Her biscuits are a fun and easy way to make   I’ve made several batches, here is my first attempt.  She is so enthusiastic and upbeat, you’ll feel like cooking something!

Another Kimberly

This GE Designs uses a layer cake pack, so 42 squares made. This will make two baby/child quilts. Why make one quilt when you can make two!  One top is made and the second is ready to be sewn together.   I may put a border to make a bit bigger.  Then I will have 5 tops needing to be quilted….fun!

Here’s the second one

Back in the sewing room!

I have gathered all my fabrics for the Bonnie Hunter mystery, no pic.

I completed two tops I started in July, one with charm squares and a GEDesigns one. This is the second one using charm squares motivated by the Fat Quarter Shop challenge  I have way too many of those squares, I could make a dozen quilts! Each one uses 100 charm squares.

This is Kimberly a GE Designs quiltalong I started in July and set aside. It uses a pack of 10” squares I’ve had for years, kinda cute. I will make another one

Yeah Halloween 🎃🎃🎃

Long hot summer is over, my gardens are put to bed until spring and today is Bonnie Hunter’s  mystery color reveal!  Aqua, purple and orange. I may substitute red for orange (not a favorite) and switch around the amounts in each color.   I haven’t done anything in my sewing room all summer..my machine is covered in dust!  It needs to go for yearly service, so in the meantime I’ll gather my fabrics in the lead up to Black Friday!

Here’s some summer flowers

August

It’s slightly cooler than awful July, hooray. I read about the Fat quarter shop’s Charm Square Challenge and since I have a ton of 5” squares I put a top together. Quick and easy already putting together a second one

Also GEDesigns had a sew along and I’m just a sewing rows together, the quilt is Kimberly no photo yet

Hot hot July

It is too hot to sew! But I finally did put the binding on the last quilt I was working on!  There’s a mystery starting the end of July plus GEDesigns is having a quilt along coming up soon…getting excited about these!

Slowly getting back to the sewing room

I got stuck because after starting the quilting on my Strip Tease quilt I decided I didn’t like how the quilting looked. So for the first time ever I picked out all the quilting. Then it sat for awhile deciding how to requilt it.  Started to do wavy line down the columns and after a few rows I couldn’t get my machine to feed properly with the walking foot. So changed to organic wavy lines and finished it that way. I have to say this is the worst quilting I’ve ever done!  But it is finished and after a quick wash it’ll be fine.

Then i have  another one to be quilted, “Hey June” but I’m beginning to doubt my abilities…or maybe my Bernina just needs to get its annual service!
Today I-located a place to send my two quilts for Ukraine, and in my backyard, sort of, Wrap Ukraine With Quilts by Hello Cottons in Lehi, Utah.

Hey June, one year later

Gudrun of GE Designs ran this day long quilt along last June 2021. I didn’t get around to participating, but decided to give it a try before the year was up.  Rows laid out ready to sew  will have a border  sure needs a pop of color, but now that I know now how it goes together, I’d like to try some jazzy fabrics, same with the Strip Tease pattern,  it seems to take me a test run before I get how it’s constructed!  Perhaps I’m too old to do this anymore, but why do I keep buying fabric!!

Here it is sewn together with the border.  Pink flamingos!  Ready to quilt and donate!

Strip Tease

This is now put together, might add a border. Such a sweet little quilt!

Did add a border…ready to quilt!

Clue 1 and 2

I had originally intended this quilt to be scrappy. But I didn’t like how it looked so rearranged what I had to be matching and redoing a few squares. Now I like how it looks. I’m going to wait for the last clue although I could go ahead and sew it together
