Two more quilt tops using 5” squares

 I love making these quilt tops, so easy and fast. Need to find backing. I’m running out of fabric for backs so am starting to buy fabric since it’s easier.  Still have a big stack of 5” squares, I may have to donate them…

The next project is picking out fabrics for the GE Designs strip along. That’s another big basketful of jelly rolls I need to work on making quilt tops from. I have way too much fabric!  I have little self control when it comes to fabric…

April news

 Still working on the Diatom quilt along and the GEEasy quilt along. I was going to change colors on the Diatom purple one, but received the Color Club choice for April from GE Quilt Designs, which was lavenders, so I’m going to just continue with what purples I have. Here is the latest block #7 and my purple pile…

For the GEEasy class, I finally finished the Zoe blocks where I did not use a background fabric. Don’t ask me why, but I wanted to see what it would look like.  Well, I ended up with 36 blocks so I found out there were infinite ways to arrange a 6x6 quilt top!  Here is what I settled on and there will be borders.  My gut feeling is I should have used a constant background fabric!

New Ruler

After reading reviews of  how wonderful the Stripology ruler is, I was cautiously optimistic about buying one. But I can say truthfully there is something wonderful about it!  The main advantage is it’s so fast to complete a task, cutting strips, squaring up blocks, and maintaining a straight line. Makes using rulers old fashioned!  So I re-watched the videos for the GEasy Class Pack Vol 1, Katrina and Zoe. As instructed I used the stripology ruler to cut pieces for both quilts using Harmony by Michael Miller bundle of 12 half yards I had bought last year from GE Designs. Couldn’t believe how fast that chore took!  I’ve already made a Katrina quilt and then the Zoe as a part of her quilting class and using my old rulers etc. Here is the Katrina top using the new ruler. 

I am now deciding how to arrange the strips for the Zoe quilt. I have cut the fabric without using a background fabric, hoping to arrange lights and darks from the four shades, rust, sand, blue sky and coal!  I hope it works!  Here are two squares I’m testing for contrast…

6 blocks done on Diatom

 I think I’ll call this one done as I don’t have enough purple scraps to make the remaining 6 blocks, and I’m tired of all this purple!  So for the next 6 blocks I’ll do something different …haven’t decided yet.  And on a day I’m feeling ambitious I still may swap out that very dark in block one to match the dark in 5 and 6  I think I have enough fab
