I've been wanting to get started making this for awhile, so happy to finally get to it. I'm making a dent in my 2.5" strips! Then I hope to get back to the weekly Barbara Brackman quilt squares - I am way way behind.

Finish it Friday
I finally got this Bento Box top done. So now I am ready to quilt 4 tops, 3 I started years ago and 1 from this year. I don't suggest, however, working on tops you started. There was a reason I didn't complete them, which I've forgotten, but I'm at a different place in my quilting progression now and my tastes have changed. But hey, I said I was going to do this and so I will. But gee all the time I lost! There are only so many quilts we have time enough to make, so make sure your time is spent doing what you really like!

Tuesday's work on Bento Box squares
I'm going to try and squeeze in a Twisting Hearts valentine piece that I saw here: http://www.conniekresin.com/2013/02/twisting-heart-valentine-tutorial.html

Sunday sewing, Poseidon top completed
I added 5 rows to the length of the original top, then added a first border of ash gray. Then a light green and ending with a light turrquoise. I may want to sleep on top of it rather than under it, such pretty ocean colors!

Next I made the Designer Mystery BOMs, quite a simple block, and I'll probably get February's block in the mail tomorrow. Since this Poseidon top is now done, I will next get it pinned and on the UFO pile. Meanwhile the last old project, my bento box quilt top, I have pulled out and made one block and cut lots of pieces. Need to pull out some different blues to add to the mix before making more blocks.
One thing I have noticed in working on old projects started years ago, is that I am at a different place now than I was when I started them, and probably would not be starting these particular quilts today. But I'll still finish them and probably donate somewhere (except the Poseidon!).

Wednesday February 6
This Poseidon is now a top, but although it is very pretty it is also quite small, 49" square. Okay for a baby quilt I guess, but I am thinking of adding borders to make it at least a lap quilt size. I can't find the directions from when I started this a few years ago, so don't know why I cut squares the size I did. Oh well, it is at least finished this far! This is all Kona cottons.
NEWSFLASH!!
For days, after mulling over how to enlarge this quilt without destroying the simple lines, looking over ideas for borders, and generally stressing over this quilt, I have come to the conclusion that the best idea is to add 5 or so more rows, thus making it rectangular. Then I'll be in good position to add simple borders using leftover fabric to enlarge it more. Now I feel better, I can relax and get on to the next project. It was granddaughters suggestion to just add more rows...

Saturday
I did get Plaid Obsession pinned and on the UFO pile.
Then started Poseidon.
Then started Poseidon.
Apparently the cats didn't like how I had laid it out! I can use all the help I can get...
But Joy does like my Civil War quilt (and so do I!)

Quilt top completed, Plaid Obsession
Yeah made my deadline for this top to be finished. Tomorrow, since there is one more day in January, I will get it pinned! Then I'll have 2 in the UFO pile. That's not too daunting. So today I am digging into my 2nd WIP, Poseidon, which I didn't get very far on but did get the pieces cut. This project will be my February goal to get into a completed top.
this is what Poseidon (http://www.redpepperquilts.com/search?q=poseidon) looks like:
